Is this a fair picture of our relationship with the Far East and Europe? If so, what happens if we disconnect from "ever-closer union?" Wouldn't they just throw away the straw and drink straight out of the glass?
You assume that leaving an 'ever closer' union would entail not having access to European markets. Given our massive balance of trade deficit with Europe, I suggest they would be happy to do a deal to allow us to go back to a 'trade only' membership, with no need to accept all their laws. Which would be the best of both worlds.
Thats without taking into account the WTO rules that govern all nations/blocs anyway.
