FRIDAY MUSIC: Colm Mac an Iomaire, by JD

"In a crowded field of outstanding Irish fiddle players and interpreters of traditional music Colm Mac Con Iomaire is unique. His voice is unmistakably his own and his music bears distinctive creative hallmarks which have as much to do with his personality and character as with his impressive technical mastery, musical authority and exquisitely expressive playing."

Just out of interest, has anyone ever seen a left handed fiddle/violin player? Or viola, cello, double bass?

Superficially those string instruments look symmetrical so maybe changing, reversing, the order of the strings would make them suitable for the dexterous or sinistral.
A solo player might not be seen as different, but in a row of violinists the sinister player would be awkward. Banging elbows or clashing bows with neighbours.
Jimi Hendrix was left handed and rock electric guitars are definitely not symetrical.
This led to his unique style. Being self taught he had nobody to tell him he was doing it "wrong".
