Smoking: a question

Are we to give up smoking because it "causes fatal diseases", or welcome it because it provides much-needed tax revenue?

As Peter Cook said about his smoking, "I risk my life for my country on a daily basis." And it was liver disease that killed him.

Plain packaging for alcohol, anyone?

So, should we encourage people to smoke, or not to? How about encouraging the elederly to smoke and drink heavily.

Until they were rumbled recently, the government simply bribed hospitals to use the Liverpool Care Pathway to rid themselves of bed-blockers.

I had to look up 'Liverpool Care Pathway'. I have mixed feelings, since I am in favour of patient-initiated euthanasia.

Quite a few cases here have been non-patient initiated. Perhaps in the US there would have been monstrous compensation laims to put a stop to secret State murder by neglect.
