The nerd is approaching the berk or there is a mediocritizing going on?

It's the nerds that gave us health and comfort, the berks who have given most of us grief. When the lines cross we could have a Golden Age.

Is this graph based on the prevalence of the types of people, or the usage of the words?

Sackerson said...

@P: The latter, but one can only hope.

Support your local nerd today.

@James - absolutely.

@Sackerson - should we be buying 'chav' though?

Sackerson said...

@P: Apparently not: https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=nerd%2Cchav&year_start=1800&year_end=2000&corpus=15&smoothing=3&share=&direct_url=t1%3B%2Cnerd%3B%2Cc0%3B.t1%3B%2Cchav%3B%2Cc0

What are you talking about? Nothing makes sense

@Jim: "berk" is rhyming slang for a despicable type of person (from "Berkeley Hunt"...); "nerd" as you know, the despised swotty pencil-neck geeks who invented everything that has given us longer life and unbelievable comforts. I'm merely hoping the the latter will soon outnumber and outrank the former.
