Luckily, the family is with a community bank which seems to have avoided the excesses, is stable, and knows us.
By contrast I have a business account (soon to be moved!) at a TARP-recipient bank that I expect will fail sooner or later. I recently had a tough lesson with them--who needs depositors when you've got free money from Uncle Ben?
I get the feeling I may amongst the final customers there. Only employee cars in the parking lot, empty offices where loan officers should work, I am always the only customer in the lobby when I make deposits. They must have chased everyone else off, except their failing CRE customers. (The community bank across the street is buzzing.)

Happy New Year, Sackerson!
... and to you, Old South.
