I dispute the completeness of the Professor's account of Georgia. There have been Russian controlled enclaves in Georgia (Abkhazia, right next to Sochi, and South Ossetia since 1993). The war he refers to related to South Ossetia when Georgia tried to resume control. Russia used that as a pretext to invade leading to formalisation of the Russian protectorate of Sout Ossetia. Russia has maintained occupation forces in Transnistria since 1992.

Nevertheless we have the creeping aggression of the US under the guise of NATO, and Blinken's insistence that it could put missiles anywhere it liked including Ukraine once acquired.
There must be some US war planners attracted by the thought of a winnable nuclear war based on a lightning fast strike without warning by nuclear-tipped hypersonic missiles launched from the Ukrainian border with Russia.
If at the same time other missiles could use electromagnetc pulses to neutralise Russia's Dead Hand automatic total nuclear response then First Strike is a potential go and the fabulous mineral wealth of the Russian far north (and the Russian continental shelf) would lie open to exploitation by the West. How much of that would reach the ordinary voter, is another question.
