Yes, the EU spend is perhaps 60times lower than the UK government spend. But that is a actually a BIG PART OF THE PROBLEM! <BR/><BR/>The EU forces the UK to make the spend, then raise the tax to fund the spend. Since the UK tax must be raised to fund the (effective) EU spend, it is hardly surprising that the UK government finds itself having to justify the EU spend in its own UK terms, rather than by stating "We will raise £100billion in new taxes to pay for ID cards as demanded by EU directive". People would simply say "What the hell kind of rubber-stamping spineless fools are you, forcing us to pay for ID cards we don't want because a bunch of non-Brits tells you too?". The UK government finds itself between a rock and a hard place. I suspect, however, that as the gap between the rock and the hard place gets ever smaller, the UK government will be forced to admit that leaving the location might just be more comfortable...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
