Only we haven't been very good at it.

America's reneging on the Opel deal looks a bit like a smack on Merkel's handy for not supporting the UK's Presidente though, so perhaps the General had a point.hatfield girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12673905475452420002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5524682876220396502.post-32037462484170920132009-11-06T15:25:18.514+00:002009-11-06T15:25:18.514+00:00I agree with Sackers and the French position.
We...I agree with Sackers and the French position.

We are in the worst possible position on the EU because we must simply decide if we want to be in or out. For the last 30 years we have been dragged along behind a European project where even the Irish have had more influence due to their more pro-EU stance.

Personally I want out, but if we do vote to be in then we must REALLY be in - get rid of the £, get rid of our borders, get the media to report on the EU, and get rid of the notion of "Britain". Getting dragged behind like this is pathetic.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5524682876220396502.post-52606895829299235232009-11-06T15:23:52.639+00:002009-11-06T15:23:52.639+00:00James: the thrust of my article is that you should...James: the thrust of my article is that you should exploit your nuisance value to put leverage on Cameron. No point saying huffily "shan't vote for you now" - then there's nothing to bargain with.

Your last para - quite. But that's to consider when deciding which way to vote in the referendum. I think pro-democracy campaigners should bite their tongues on that issue and keep saying, with sweet reasonableness, "All we are asking for is the nation's right to decide, and when the decision is made, we will abide by the result and make it work as well as we can, whichever way it goes." Going into the pros and cons of EU membership at this stage plays into the hands of the obfuscators.Sackersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09410040031410954403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5524682876220396502.post-8924325180377459762009-11-06T09:22:47.352+00:002009-11-06T09:22:47.352+00:00Sensible stuff, but I thought that was just what w...Sensible stuff, but I thought that was just what we are doing. There is one demand - we want the referendum we were promised.

The promise has been broken, so we won't vote for him.

Isn't that simple enough? I really do not see what the alternative is that you are proposing.

(Aside - there are no longer "two great power factions that take turns to rule us". From 1st December, there is only one - the EU commission. And we can't influence that at all.
