Nearly as fat as a Mexican

  1. What I find strange about this graph is that Australia is scarcely behind us. I have the idea of a nation of fit sports fanatics who beat us at the cock of a hat at any sport they choose. Doesn't really fit with having 20% of the population obese.

  2. A consequence of people's sporting activities becoming commercialised spectator sport?

  3. Of course there could be a racial element to it - certainly in NZ the Maoris and South Sea Islanders would be significantly shifting the average upwards, as they are well known to be heavier. Similarly in Australia there are big social problems with the Aboriginal population, who exist predominantly on welfare, and thus could be fatter?

  4. Plus, they keep messing with the BMI scales, to make more of us 'fat'.
