Dealing with violence

I admire the restraint of this man, under great provocation. The unfortunate sap taunting him is too drunk and perhaps daft to notice the calm, balanced and very quietly action-ready way his "victim" is standing. Ah, if only it were always thus.

  2. I ask my students if they would pick up an angry housecat with bare hands. When they say 'No!', I tell them to be the cat.

  4. The young man was quite obviously inexperienced at fighting (and very stupid). His opponent:

    a) Kept completely calm, a definite warning sign
    b) Protected his centre, without being threatening
    c) Kept his hands inside the yob's, so that he would have a clear shot at his head
    d) Went in right side forward, which throws off the balance of most people, since they are used to right-handed people

  7. I think he passes the reasonable-man test with flying colours - most people would have exploded, and far sooner. He was probably thinking more of his undertakings as a karateka to use his skills with maximum restraint and responsibility.

Say what you please, so long as it's phrased politely and is not libellous or legally proscribed. Fact, reason and wit are keenly welcomed.
