1984

It hasn't happened the way Orwell said it would, they keep saying. Yet:

The Children’s Secretary set out £400million plans to put 20,000 problem families under 24-hour CCTV supervision in their own homes.

They will be monitored to ensure that children attend school, go to bed on time and eat proper meals.

(htp: Mark Steyn)

Soon, I shall wake up and discover it was all a dream.

I believe they are already doing this. Will try and dig out reference. Horrifying, is it not? Balls is a nasty populist demagogue who needs removing from any sort of power whatsoever.

  4. A better use of the money would be to pay 10,000 people $40,000 per year, and assign them 2 problem families each to look after. Not only would it help unemployment, but some might get the families to 'do right' by socialization.

  5. Good bit of sideways thinking, P.

  6. I read the article in Bulgarian. They say there, that the families who elect to have cameras, will receive some benefit (money or something), so at least at the moment is not mandatory.

Unfortunately, because of a plague of spam comments, you need to be a "registered user", otherwise your observations will be buried in a torrent of multilingual nonsense. Please do comment!

Say what you please, so long as it's phrased politely and is not libellous or legally proscribed. Fact, reason and wit are keenly welcomed.
