Want to escape?

Try moving to Uruguay, for a "sustainable" lifestyle.

Or if you regard murder and suicide rates as indicators of general unhappiness, note the countries with low rates. (Also note how statistics is plagued with problems of accurate information, though.)

  1. May I humbly suggest the Yucatan part of Mexico as a suitable alternative. Just as cheap, safe and accessible as Uruguay but much closer to civilisation and more sophisticated as well.

  2. Thanks for the tip, Mexicano. Is that anywhere near where Sir James Goldsmith built his fortress?

  3. Uruguay the size of Spain? Not in my atlas. Admittedly, it is an old atlas.

  4. You're right, Anon, Spain is nearly 3 times bigger.

  5. No, Sackerson, Goldsmith built his on the west coast up towards Baja California. The Yucatan is the peninsula on the east coast that separates the Gulf of Mexico from the Caribbean. It´s a big empty space the size of England and Wales put together but with only 2 million people, most of those in the two main cities - Cancun and Merida. The first offers a fast, US-style living; the second has a more sedate, colonial pace.

    Hope this helps!

Say what you please, so long as it's phrased politely and is not libellous or legally proscribed. Fact, reason and wit are keenly welcomed.
