  1. We all know that most of the educational problems stem from the fact that most schools are used as crèches!

When parents use a school as a crèche they stop worrying about what is being taught and concentrate on their children being held there.

The answer? Make parents pay for the education of their own children. Go via a voucher scheme at first.

  2. I disagree. If you want excellence, there are many worse solutions than the British system of the 60's and 70's - divide the students by ability, and put the best in one school. Natural competitiveness will take care of the rest. It's not 'fair', but it is known to work.

It was good until the PCers got their hands on it.

Unfortunately, because of a plague of spam comments, you need to be a "registered user", otherwise your observations will be buried in a torrent of multilingual nonsense. Please do comment!

Say what you please, so long as it's phrased politely and is not libellous or legally proscribed. Fact, reason and wit are keenly welcomed.
