Shortly after the Ossetian excursion, Putin tranquillizes a tiger. Could he be sending a message over to the south-east?

    He looks better than Gordon Brown grinning behind a machine gun in a helicopter gunship. I'd rather be tranquilised by Putin than machine gunned by Brown.
