Dumbographics: Greta Thunberg and the young "femographic"

Sex Pistols manager Malcom Maclaren said, "You can make more money exploiting yourself than by exploiting other people."

He didn't add, "Except your kids and other youngsters." That can be left to politicians, and quangocrats like Greta Thunberg's milieu. Canadian investigative journalist Cory Morningstar has already deconstructed the moneymaking juggernaut that has poor Greta tied to it like the secondhand teddy on the front of a lorry, referring to "the targeting of female youth as a key “femographic”".

And the social media owners are happy to manipulate our discussions to help the panic along. Here's an example from today's Facebook feed:

What I'd like you to notice is that when you click on "1 comment" you find that comments are filtered for "relevance". How kind.

Except that when you drill down further to see "All comments", here is what that one person said:

I don't know whether this subtle censorship is done by machine, or is handmade. But surely that comment is spot-on for relevance. China is the world's biggest CO2 emitter.

When public affairs are to be guided by a latter-day Shirley Temple fresh off her Good Ship Lollipop we should start lowering the lifeboats.

Why Edmonton in Canada? There is an Edmonton in Cornwall. Would that not be a more suitable choice? Even better would be for Saint Greta's handlers to accept this invitation -

"During the impending General Election campaign, Ms Thunberg's considerable family wealth, and her vast corporate sponsorship, would easily stretch to bringing her here to North West Durham, with its former steel town and with its former pit villages.

"In that town and in those villages, she could extol the wonders of deindustrialisation. Then I and others could reply. Come on, Greta. I dare you."

I am waiting for scientific evidence of their point of view. If there is any I have not yet seen it. What I do agree with is that the climate is changing.

Climate has changed over thousands of years. Sometimes the trend is hot and sometimes the trend is cold. Nature will take over in due course...

There is plenty of scientific evidence. Some people just don't like it. The scientific community has written about carbon dioxide and the greenhouse effect for over one hundred years.

The problem I have is that this is an activist movement. The movement provides no scientific evidence to back up what they are advocating.

I agree that humans create pollution of many kinds, however I prefer scientific evidence rather than political activism that provides no scientific evidence to back up statements.

Food for thought...

All of the actual evidence appears on their side, but a lot of very powerful parties don't like to hear that, including the fossil fuel industry.

Interestingly, while they get the public to doubt what is fairly clearly happening, we have President Trump trying to get the Scottish government to build a sea wall to protect his golf course, and at least 8 nations vying for Arctic resources, including access to ice-free shipping lanes. Exxon-Mobil has all kinds of fun plans for a warmer future.

Paddington - would you care to provide some links to support your thoughts?

I am particularly interested in Trump and his golf course. Except I am not really ;-) I have seen no evidence to support that line of thinking...

I was a little off. Trump is looking for permission to build a sea wall at his Irish resort: https://www.vox.com/2018/11/27/18114338/trump-climate-change-assessment-golf-course-ireland

The stuff about shipping lanes was in the National Geographic a couple of months ago.

Paddington,

Thankyou :-)

I have mentioned before about the ice age cycles and that we are currently in an inter glacial period (which means we are experiencing a warm period in the earth's cycle).

I have now found an online graphic to illustrate my point about Ice Ages and the Earths natural circle of warming and cooling:

We are certainly in an inter-glacial period. We are also forcing that with increased carbon dioxide.
